SKETCHNOTE TAKING

Live capturing keynote speeches, conferences, panel talks, lectures, workshops

Sketchnote taking summarized in one sentence: An event being live-captured through images and annotations by a person drawing in a notebook or on an illustration board. This activity goes largely unnoticed by the participants.

The benefits of inviting a sketchnoter: Contrary to graphic recording sketchnoting doesn't require special equipment or space from the event organizer's end. The sketchnoter's presence is considerably more discreet with the same benefit of recording the information presented in a visual form. After the event you get a full set of visual notes in a digital format to give to the participants as well as anyone who wasn't able to attend the event.

What type of events may benefit from having a graphic recorder present?

Large and small scale public events such as various conferences, panel talks, lectures as well as private gatherings such as various internal company meetings and training all benefit from a visual representation. If you are concerned about the participants' reaction to having a graphic recorder in the room, then a sketchnoter is a less invasive option with similar benefits.

My unique style: I listen for key points, the main message/vision and the overall atmosphere of what is being communicated and how it's being received (if distinguishable). My recordings are image heavy (unless otherwise requested), which means I tend to express most of the points through images and add only a limited amount of text. I choose to do that because images transcend language and leave a stronger impression on all participants. As a result internalization of the content is faster and longer lasting.
